Greg Dobbs had two hits and three RBI in 9-2 Miami Marlins win as the Phillies’ couldn’t pick up the sweep. Roy Halladay didn’t pitch all that badly, making one big mistake to Dobbs, which he hit out of the ballpark in the seventh inning.
Doc was done after being lifted for a pinch-hitter in the top of 8th inning after going 7 innings, allowing three earned runs and striking out seven. The combination of BJ Rosenberg, Raul Valdez and Michael Schwimer struggled, giving up six runs in the 8th inning which put the game out of reach. For the Phillies’ offense, you knew things were going to be rough when Ty Wiggington, 4 for his last 35, was hitting cleanup. Interestingly enough, Wiggington had two hits including a home run and two RBIs in a spot start for Howard against the left-handed Mark Buerhle. Buerhle won his 10th game of the year which gives him ten wins for the 12th straight year.
Warren Croxton and his running thoughts while watching 3 Philadelphia teams in action.
7:00- So with three Philadelphia sports teams in action, I thought it would be cool to write down everything I thought during the games. Mostly going to be Flyers and Phillies, but with some Sixers thoughts.
7:03- Marc Zumoff said Cleveland is a nice place to play. I completely disagree. It was an awful place to visit.
7:08- Random MLB thought- the Blue Jays uniforms are awesome.
7:09- Mike Sweeney on my screen! He’s the man! Hugs for everyone.
Last season the Phillies won a franchise record 102 games with an average offense and great pitching staff. Expectations were high heading into the season with Cliff Lee joining the fold and those expectations didn’t change as the season went along. On September 17th,Philadelphia defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 9-2 and clinched their fifth consecutive NL East title. Following the win, the team went on an eight game losing streak that scared a lot of the fan base, however others mention that they had nothing to play for as a big factor. The Phillies finished the season on a four game winning streak, sweeping the Atlanta Braves and actually knocked them out of the playoffs on the final day. This allowed the St. Louis Cardinals to win the NL Wildcard and set up a first round matchup against the Phillies. The Cardinals finished up 16-5 to conclude the season en-route to passing the Braves.
The Phillies won their 5th consecutive division title
